The Story of Wild Island

Wild Island is the biggest little locally owned family entertainment complex in the West, but trust us—there’s nothing small about the fun here! The Waterpark opened in June 1989 with just seven attractions, bringing people together to enjoy good, clean fun without a big trip away from home.

And, as our Northern Nevada community has grown, so has Wild Island and its top-tier attractions. We opened Coconut Bowl in 2003, giving our families more excitement and options for entertainment.

The Waterpark is one of Reno-Sparks’ hotspots during the summer, offering fun in the sun for all ages. There are plenty of ways to make a splash, from our wave pool and slow-moving river to exciting water slides.

There are adventures around every corner in Coconut Bowl, which is why it’s the #1 place for year-round fun! Expanded to a 125,000-square-foot facility in 2018, it offers a variety of experiences, from bowling and arcade games to laser tag and go-karts.

At the heart of it all, we’re about creating fun experiences that everyone can share. Every ride, every game and every event is thoughtfully designed to bring people together in a safe environment where the memories are just as exciting as the attractions. Our passion for innovation and providing top-notch entertainment earned us an IAAPA Brass Ring Award in 2022—and we’re committed to continuing that legacy for years to come. When it comes to fun in Northern Nevada, Wild Island leads the way in delivering nonstop excitement for guests of all ages.

Our Community Impact

  • Wild Island is the largest single employer of teens in Northern Nevada, employing approximately 600 people, 80% of whom are in this age group.
  • We give out approximately 70 scholarships a year to exemplary employees to help them defray the cost of college or trade school.
  • Wild Island is water-efficient, using less than 50 acre-feet of water per year.
  • All towels left by customers throughout the waterpark season—and there are a lot of ‘em—get donated to the Nevada Humane Society.
  • Many of our employees work for us from 14 or 15 years of age through college.
